The Coller Institute of Private Equity hosted its eighth annual Private Equity Findings Symposium on 1 and 2 June 2015 in London.

The Symposium is the Coller Institute of Private Equity’s annual flagship event. It is a unique two-day conference, bringing together about 250 delegates comprising of major industry representatives and academic thought leaders from around the world to discuss new research findings and current concerns regarding the Private Equity subject matter.

This year's event was inaugurated by Sir Andrew Likierman, Dean of London Business School and with keynotes from Professor Josh Lerner of Harvard Business School, Blair V Jacobson, Partner at Areas Management Ltd., Professor Florin Vasvari of London Business School and a keynote discussion with Dwight Poler, Managing Director at Bain Capital.

The topics of the day 1 panels were:

DOES PRIVATE EQUITY DELIVER STABILITY?”

PE has been tried and tested throughout difficult times. This panel explored how PE contributes to stability in a wider portfolio context, across the different PE asset classes and what this means for GP and LP portfolio considerations.

GROWTH CAPITAL- WHERE PE MEETS VC?

This panel investigated the definition of "Growth Capital", relevant investment criteria and expertise required to succeed in this space, what it differentiates from VC and Buy-Out and what attracts investor to this asset class.

DIVERSIFICATION: GEOGRAPHIC FOCUS OR GLOBAL FOOTPRINT?

A group of experts explored the drivers and criteria for a successful geographic private equity strategy and the impact of globalisation on private equity.

 On day 2 academics from major research institutes around the world presented and discussed new research findings regarding the private equity and venture capital subject matter. The audience had the unique opportunity to hear new research being discussed and to share their views and questions regarding the research. The day included  academic speakers from Columbia Business School, Said Business School, MIT Sloan School of Business, Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, The London School of Economics, Norwegian School of Economics, The Ohio Fisher College of Business, The Indiana Kelley School of Business, INSEAD, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard Business School, USC Marshall School of Business and London Business School.
